Box Score 2 WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (3-1) played their home opener from the Clark Softball Field on Tuesday afternoon and came away with a series sweep of Anna Maria (2-8).
Clark won game one 11-4 and won game two 10-2.
Game One: Clark 11, Anna Maria 4
- Senior Kaylee Gibson took the hill for the Cougars in game one and retired the side in order in the bottom of the first and Clark got the lead on a homer to right center from senior Francesca Cirone to lead off the inning.
- Gibson struck out three batters in the second inning and sophomore Samantha Crowley scored Clark's second run of the game in the top of the third and Cirone doubled to deep center field to score sophomore Rebecca Mauro and extend the lead to 3-0.
- Anna Maria added three runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 3-3, but Clark roared back to take a 5-3 lead in the top of the fourth with an RBI coming from junior Eliza Lindberg and junior Kaylee Armida came around to score to make it a 5-3 game.
- Junior Nicole Buckley came in to pitch in the fourth and retired a batter with runners on first and second inning as Clark held a 5-4 lead.
- The Cougars offense erupted with six runs in the top of the fifth sparked by two-RBI singles from Armida and Cirone and RBI's from Crowley and junior Samantha Restrepo-Stier as Clark took an 11-4 lead after five innings of action.
- Buckley shut out the Amcats over the final two innings as the scarlet and white took game one 11-4.
Game Two: Clark 10, Anna Maria 2 (F/5)
- Rebecca Mauro drove in Lindberg in the top of the first and Cirone hit a single to center field that scored Crowley as Clark led 2-0 after the top of the first inning.
- Junior Jessica Sardilli took the bump for Clark in game two and retired the side in the bottom of the first before the Cougars offense exploded for four more runs in the second inning propelled by a Lindberg two-RBI double and another pair of runs scored by Lindberg and Armida to take a 6-0 lead.
- After Sardilli retired the side again in the second, sophomore Emily Hogue extended the advantage to 7-0 with an RBI single.
- Crowley came around to score on a wild pitch in the top of the fourth and in the top of the fifth, Crowley drove in another run as the Cougars held a 10-1 lead.
- Sardilli closed out the Amcats in the fifth inning and the game ended on a ground out to second as Clark completed the sweep with a 10-2 win.

Clark will welcome Worcester State to the Clark Softball Field on Tuesday, March 29 for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
