The Renny Classic

How it Happened

  • After Babson opened the game with a goal, senior Ryan Mickelson made a pair of critical saves before the Beavers added a man-up goal to go up 2-0 with 10:20 left in the first quarter.
  • Senior Steve Caione cut the deficit in half with 9:47 left in the first off a pass from sophomore Attilio LaVecchia and senior Benjamin Hollerbach added a man-down goal from sophomore Byron Palmieri as Clark trailed 3-2 with 7:40 to go in the first.
  • LaVecchia nearly tied it up with a shot on target and Mickelson recorded three more saves over the remainder of the period as Babson led 5-2.
  • Both defenses dominated the second quarter as neither team scored a goal and Clark's defense didn't allow a single shot on goal and juniors John D'Eufemia and Declan Fitpatrick fired shots on goal as the Cougars trailed 5-2.
  • Senior Tommy McCarthy got Clark within two off a nice feed from first-year Matt Wells to get within two and another Hollerbach goal made it a 5-4 contest with 10:02 to go in the third quarter.
  • Babson then scored five unanswered goals and Clark responded with a goal of their own when Wells found the back of the net on a pass from McCarthy as Babson led 11-5 after three quarters of play.
  • Caione and D'Eufemia netted the final two goals of the game for Clark, who got as close as 12-7 before falling 14-7.
