Box Score 2 NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Clark University softball team (4-10, 0-8 NEWMAC) dropped a pair of conference contests to Coast Guard (12-7, 5-2 NEWMAC) on Friday afternoon from Nitchman Field.
Clark fell 17-3 in game one and 18-5 in game two.
Game One: Coast Guard 17, Clark 3 (F/5)
- The Cougars had seniors Francesca Cirone and Jess Martin each reach base in the top of the first, but were left on base before the Bears took a 4-0 lead after one inning of play.
- Junior Eliza Lindberg and sophomore Samantha Crowley both singled in the top of the third and Martin walked to load the bases, but again the Cougars were unable to score.
- Clark's offense added three runs in the top of the fifth led by an RBI from junior Kaitlin Fraga and a two RBI single from Martin.
Game Two: Coast Guard 18, Clark 5 (F/5)
- Senior Kaylee Gibson recorded Clark's first hit of game two in the top of the second and junior Allessia Mauro singled to center in the top of the third for the team's second hit of game two.
- Sophomore Rebecca Mauro and Allessia Mauro each recorded RBI singles in the top of the fourth that scored junior Kaylee Armida and Gibson.
- Clark added three more runs in the top of the fifth with an RBI from Armida and a two-RBI double from Rebecca Mauro.
What's Next
Clark will be back in action on tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader series against Wellesley beginning at 12:00 p.m.
