Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (3-9, 1-4 NEWMAC) played its senior day game against Wheaton (9-4, 1-4 NEWMAC) and fell 9-7 on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.
Prior to the game, seniors Noah Skole, Sawyer Kindel, Benjamin Hollerbach, Ryan Mickelson, Nathan Minkwitz, Tommy McCarthy, Mark Zito, Steve Caione, and Jacob Brydson and graduate students Dan Turgeon and Conor Khung were recognized for their contributions to the Clark men's lacrosse program.
How it Happened
- After a Wheaton goal to open the game, sophomore Colin Howard tied the game at 1-1 after scooping up a ground ball off a shot from fellow sophomore Attilio LaVecchia.
- Clark took the lead with 10:41 left in the first quarter when Zito found McCarthy for a shot that found the back of the net as the Cougars held a 2-1 lead.
- Wheaton ended the quarter on a 3-0 run despite a quality shot on goal from junior John D'Eufemia to give the Lyons a 4-2 advantage.
- The Lyons added another goal early in the second quarter and Caione, Hollerbach, and McCarthy each fired shots on goal that were saved as Wheaton led 6-2 at the half.
- Mickelson recorded two critical saves early in the third quarter and Hollerbach found McCarthy for Clark's third goal of the afternoon with 5:42 to go in the third as the Cougars trailed 7-3.
- Wheaton scored the final two goals of the third to lead 9-3, but Clark's offense came alive in the fourth quarter as they added four goals over the first 10 minutes of the fourth to get within two at 9-7.
- The Clark fourth quarter goals were scored by Howard on a man-up opportunity, sophomore Patrick Liddy, Caione, and Hollerbach.
- Sophomore Matthew Minkwitz nearly brought Clark back to within one when he had a shot saved and D'Eufemia also nearly beat the goalie, but Wheaton held on for a 9-7 win.
