Box Score 2 WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (5-11, 1-9 NEWMAC) picked up its first NEWMAC win today as they split a series with Wellesley (3-18, 2-8 NEWMAC) from the Wellesley Softball Field.
Clark won 8-6 in game one and lost 7-3 in game two.
Game One: Clark 8, Wellesley 6
- The Cougars took an early 1-0 lead when senior Jessica Martin belted a double to left field that scored junior Eliza Lindberg.
- Junior Jessica Sardilli took the mound in game one for Clark and tossed two scoreless innings of softball to open the game.
- The Cougars offense erupted for five runs in the top of the third led by an RBI double from senior Francesca Cirone, a two RBI double from senior Kaylee Gibson, and RBI singles from junior Allessia Mauro and sophomore Rebecca Mauro to take a 6-0 lead.
- After Wellesley added a run in the bottom of the third, Gibson singled up the middle to score Cirone and Lindberg as Clark held an 8-1 advantage.
- Wellesley got within two in the bottom of the seventh, but junior Nicole Buckley was able to get out of a first and second jam by forcing a ground out and a foul out to left field to end the game.
Game Two: Wellesley 7, Clark 3
- Rebecca Mauro opened game two with a homer in the top of the second that scored Gibson to give Clark a 2-0 advantage.
- Gibson only allowed one run through three innings on the mound in game two before the Blue added four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
- Buckley singled up the middle in the top of the fifth, but wasn't able to score and Clark saw its final run of the game come in the top of the sixth off an RBI double from Gibson as the Cougars fell 7-3.
What's Next
The Cougars will return to the field on Tuesday when they welcome Worcester State to the O'Brien Softball Field for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
