Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (3-6, 1-2 NEWMAC) earned its first NEWMAC win with a thrilling 11-10 overtime win over Emerson (10-2, 1-1 NEWMAC) on Saturday night from Rotch Field.
Senior Jacob Brydson netted the game-tying and game-winning goals in the down to the wire victory.
How it Happened
- Junior John D'Eufemia and sophomore Attilio LaVecchia gave Clark an early 2-0 advantage less than two minutes into the game with goals scored.
- After an Emerson goal, sophomore Colin Howard fired a shot on goal that nearly gave Clark a two goal lead again, but junior Declan Fitzpatrick found sophomore Byron Palmieri to give the Cougars a 3-1 advantage.
- After junior Dylan Harloff's first save of the game, first-year Matt Wells extended the lead to 4-1 with a goal as Clark took a 4-1 lead into the second quarter.
- The Cougars peppered Emerson with shots to start the second quarter and pushed the lead to 5-3 on a goal from Howard that was assisted by Fitzpatrick.
- LaVecchia, sophomore Patrick Liddy, Hollerbach, and D'Eufemia all had shots saved and Harloff made two saves in the middle of the second quarter as the Cougars held a 5-4 at the break.
- Hollerbach added to the lead with 13:46 to go in the third with a shot that put Clark up 6-4.
- After two more Harloff saves, Brydson scored to give the Cougars a 7-4 advantage with 8:34 left in the third quarter and there was only one more goal scored in the period as Clark held a 7-5 lead entering the fourth.
- Hollerbach and LaVecchia extended the lead to 9-5 on goals off passes from graduate student Dan Turgeon and senior Steve Caione.
- The Lions fought back to tie the game at 9-9 and took a 10-9 lead with 0:48 remaining, but Clark's offense answered with a goal with 0:09 left in the fourth quarter when Hollerbach found Brydson and Brydson beat the keeper to tie the game at 10-10.
- Harloff made a critical save in overtime with 1:14 left in overtime and Brydson fired a shot with 0:20 remaining in the first overtime that beat the goalie as Clark recorded a conference victory.
