Box Score 2 WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (3-3, 0-2 NEWMAC) opened conference play with a pair of losses to Wheaton (10-6, 2-0 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon from the O'Brien Softball Field.
Clark fell 2-1 in game one and 9-0 in game two.
Game One: Wheaton 2, Clark 1
- Junior Nicole Buckley took the mound in game one for the Cougars and pitched a shutout first inning before the Lyons added a run in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead.
- After a scoreless top of the third thrown by Buckley, senior Jessica Martin recorded Clark's first hit of the game in the bottom of the third and was moved over to third on a single from junior from Natalie Stilwell, but was left on third.
- After both teams went down in order in the fourth and fifth innings, Stilwell tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth with a homer to left field.
- Wheaton scored a run in the top of the seventh to go up 2-1 and junior Samantha Restrepo-Steir walked and reached third base, but the Lyons got the third out to win 2-1.
Game Two: Wheaton 9, Clark 0 (F/6)
- Senior Kaylee Gibson took the bump in game two for Clark and threw a scoreless first inning and in the bottom half, junior Eliza Lindberg singled, but was left on base.
- The Lyons scored five runs in the top of the second and junior Jessica Sardilli came in relief and tossed a scoreless third inning before Wheaton scored a run in the fourth.
- Gibson singled to left field in the fifth inning for Clark's final hit of the game.

The Cougars will travel to Fitchburg State for a doubleheader on Friday afternoon beginning at 3:00 p.m.
