Box Score 2 BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (6-18, 2-16 NEWMAC) ended its regular season with a conference series at No. 18 Babson (34-6, 16-2 NEWMAC) and dropped both games to the Beavers on Saturday afternoon from Alumni Field.
Clark fell 5-3 in game one and 8-2 in game two.
Game One: Babson 5, Clark 3
- Senior Jessica Martin drove in Clark's first run of the game in the top of the first with a ball hit in the infield that scored junior Eliza Lindberg to take a 1-0 lead.
- Fellow senior Kaylee Gibson started on the mound for Clark and after a scoreless first inning pitched, the Beavers took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second.
- The Cougars rallied back in the top of the third when sophomore Rebecca Mauro belted a two-RBI double to left field that scored Gibson and senior Francesca Cirone to tie the game at 3-3.
- Clark had runners on second and third with no outs in the top of the sixth when Mauro and junior Nicole Buckley each drew walks and advanced a base on a wild pitch, but the Beavers got out of the jam to keep a 5-3 lead.
- The Cougars loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh as Gibson, Martin, and Mauro all reached base, but Babson retired the final batter of the game to win 5-3.
Game Two: Babson 8, Clark 2
- Clark again took a 1-0 lead to open game two when Cirone hit an RBI sacrifice fly to center field that scored Lindberg in the top of the first.
- After the Beavers added four runs, the Cougars got one back in the top of the fourth when Gibson singled to center field to drive home Cirone to make it a 4-2 ball game.
- Gibson registered Clark's final hit of the game in the top of the sixth as the scarlet and white fell 8-2.
