Box Score 2 WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (4-6, 0-4 NEWMAC) welcomed Springfield (18-4, 4-0 NEWMAC) to O'Brien Softball Field on Friday and fell to the Pride in both contests of the doubleheader.
Clark fell 12-4 in game one and 12-1 in game two.
Game One: Springfield 12, Clark 4
- Junior Nicole Buckley took the bump in game one against Springfield and threw a scoreless first before the Cougars first two runs of the first came off runners scoring on wild pitches when junior Eliza Lindberg and sophomore Samantha Crowley crossed the plate to give Clark a 2-0 lead.
- Buckley tossed a scoreless second and third where she only allowed one hit, but in the fourth Springfield plated three runs to take a 3-2 advantage.
- Sophomore Rebecca Mauro reached third base in the bottom of the fourth, but was left on third and Springfield scored six runs in the top of the fifth to take a 9-2 lead.
- Crowley scored off an error in the bottom of the fifth and junior Riley Bronson scored in the bottom of the sixth as Clark fell 12-4.
Game Two: Springfield 12, Clark 1
- Senior Kaylee Gibson took the mound in game two and after getting in a jam in the top of the first, Gibson struck out two of the next three batters to get out on the inning.
- After tossing another scoreless inning, Springfield scored the first run of the game and Clark nearly responded by Lindberg reaching second before being left on base.
- The Pride added six runs in the top of the fourth and the Cougars responded with an RBI single from junior Jessica Sardilli that scored fellow junior Allessia Mauro to make it a 7-1 game, but Clark fell 12-1.
What's Next
Clark will be back in action on tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader series against MIT beginning at 1:00 p.m. from O'Brien Field.
