Box Score NEWPORT, R.I. - Clark men's soccer (1-3) battled with Salve Regina (2-0-2) for 90 minutes, but fell short by a 3-2 margin on Saturday afternoon from Toppa Field.
How it Happened
- Junior Anyolo Makatiani gave Clark an early 1-0 lead in the 11th minute with a shot off a feed from senior Ezekiel Palmer.
- Junior Andrew DiStefano earned the start in net for the Cougars and recorded saves in the 14th and 19th minutes on chances created by the Seahawks.
- Senior Ethan Furphy created a chance in the 20th minute that was stopped by the goalie and DiStefano came up with two more saves in the middle of the half as both offenses went back and forth.
- Palmer and sophomore William Lopez each fired shots on goal that were saved, but the Cougars extended the lead when sophomore Tyler Manley found the back of the net with a shot off a pass from graduate student Daniel Moura to take a 2-0 lead.
- DiStefano recorded three saves early in the second half and sophomore Zachary Kratz fired a shot on target that was saved.
- Salve Regina cut the deficit in half with a goal from Emmet Schuele in the 69th minute and tied the game in the 74th minute with a shot from Alec Quiroz.
- DiStefano saved a shot in the 83rd minute before the Seahawks scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute with a shot from Sam Winiarski as Salve won 3-2.
