Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (3-4, 1-0 NEWMAC) opened up NEWMAC play on Tuesday night with a thrilling 3-1 win against WPI (5-2, 0-1 NEWMAC) from Harrington Auditorium.
The Cougars won the first set 25-23, the second set 25-20, fell 25-23 in the third set, and came away with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set.
How It Happened
- The two teams traded points early in the first set as the match was tied 10-10, led by three kills from senior Sofia Scherrer del Llano and three assists from graduate student Margarita Perez-Maza.
- After Clark fell begin 15-13, three kills from senior Claudia Rivera and attacking errors from the Engineers helped the Cougars regain a 21-20 advantage.
- Junior Victoria Pastor registered a kill and the Cougars came out of the set with a 25-23 win with the set ending via a WPI service error.
- Clark took a 7-6 lead in the second set sparked by kills from four different Cougars, including two from Rivera and extended the edge to 10-9 on a kill from senior Cameron Gill.
- The scarlet and white pushed the lead to 19-15 in the second set sparked by three more kills from Rivera on assists from Perez Maza.
- Clark was able to close out the set 25-20 with Pastor capping the set off with a kill off a dish from sophomore Yvanna Torres.
- In the third set, Clark established an 11-5 lead sparked by three kills from Gill and a pair of kills from Rivera, but the Engineers rallied to take a 21-15 lead in the frame before coming away with a 25-20 win of the third set.
- In the fourth set, the set was tied 7-7 when Scherrer del Llano recorded a kill and the teams traded the next 10 points in what was now a 12-12 set.
- Clark went up 18-17 on a service ace from Perez Maza and Perez Maza recorded another service ace two points later to make it 20-17 and the Cougars held on and closed the match out with a kill from Rivera to win 25-22.
Inside the Stats
- Clark recorded 47 kills, dished out 47 assists, and registered 79 digs.
- Rivera led the team with 17 kills.
- Pastor and Gill also reached double-figures with 10 kills each.
- Torres led the squad with 21 assists and Perez Maza dished out 18 helpers.
- Graduate student Marimo Oka recorded 24 digs and first-year Yumeng Liu added 15.

Clark will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Keene State for a non-conference contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
