Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. - Clark men's soccer (1-5, 0-1 NEWMAC) opened NEWMAC action on Saturday afternoon against MIT (2-4, 1-0 NEWMAC) with a 5-2 to the Engineers from Granger Field.
How it Happened
- Junior Andrew DiStefano kept the game tied early with three saves in the first 16 minutes of action, but the Engineers took a 1-0 advantage on a shot from Rami Bikdash in the 20th minute off a feed from Richter Brzeski.
- MIT extended their lead to 2-0 in the 26th minute with a shot from Garrett Robinson and scored another goal before the half in the 35th minute as the Engineers took a 3-0 edge into the break.
- First-year Diego Marin opened the second half in goal for Clark and came away with two early saves on shots from Robinson and John Flynn.
- Junior Anyolo Makatiani cut into the deficit in the 50th minute with a shot from the right side of the box off a pass from sophomore Tyler Manley to make it a 3-1 game.
- Makatiani scored another goal two minutes later as he cut back left into the box and fired a left-footed shot that beat the goalie off a feed from sophomore Colin Ruiz as Clark made it a 3-2 match.
- Manley nearly tied the match with a header that went just wide of the goal and Marin came away with a save in the 59th minute.
- MIT's defense held up the rest of the match only allowing one shot on goal, which came in the 90th minute when Makatiani put a shot on target that was saved as MIT came away with a 5-2 win over Clark.
