Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (7-4, 2-0 NEWMAC) won their second conference game of the year and extended their winning streak to five games with a 3-0 win over Mount Holyoke (4-6, 0-3 NEWMAC) on Tuesday night from the Kneller Gymnasium.
The Cougars won the first set 25-19, the second set 25-16, and the third set 25-19.
How it Happened
- Clark opened the contest with a 9-8 lead as the team's traded points despite two kills from junior Victoria Pastor, but the Cougars then went on a 7-0 run with graduate student Marimo Oka serving and got two kills from senior Claudia Rivera in that time frame to give Clark a 16-8 advantage.
- Junior Sheyenne Williams closed out the set with the final two points with kills off passes from graduate student Margarita Perez Maza as Clark took the first set 25-19.
- After Clark held an 8-6 lead in the second set led by two more kills from Pastor, Clark again went on a 5-0 run with sophomore Yvanna Torres serving and got two kills from Rivera to take a 13-6 advantage.
- Junior Camille Flurry, senior Cameron Gill, and Pastor each tallied kills as the Cougars held a 20-11 lead in the set before Rivera closed out the set with two kills, one assisted by Perez Maza and the other by Torres as Clark won 25-16.
- In the final set, Clark took an early 7-4 edge sparked by a block from Flurry, a kill from Pastor, and a service aces from Rivera, but the Lyons wound up taking a 11-9 lead in the set.
- Clark then scored the next five points led by three kills from Rivera, one from senior Sofia Scherrer del Llano, and Williams to regain a 14-11 lead.
- The teams traded points as the score was 18-18 in the third set, but the Cougars ended the match on a 7-1 run as Rivera recorded a service ace and Pastor closed the door on Mount Holyoke with three kills as Clark won the final set 25-19.
