Lopez Nets Two Goals in Men's Soccer's 2-1 Win Over Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM Mass. - Clark men's soccer (1-2) earned their first victory of the year with a 2-1 win over Framingham State (1-1-1) on Wednesday afternoon from Maple Street Field.

How it Happened

  • First-year Diego Marin opened the game with a save in the third minute and senior Ezekiel Palmer nearly broke the tie in the eighth minute, but had his shot stopped in a fast-paced game.
  • Junior Anyolo Makatiani created a dangerous chance in the 13th minute with a shot the keeper saved and then followed that shot up and it was stopped again.
  • In the 30th minute, sophomore Colin Ruiz played the corner short to fellow sophomore William Lopez sent a ball into the lower right corner of the goal to give Clark a 1-0 advantage.
  • Graduate student Daniel Moura early extended the lead to 2-0 before the break, but the goalie registered a save and Marin stopped a shot in the 45th minute as the Cougars led 1-0 at the half.
  • Lopez extended the lead to 2-0 in the 52nd minute with a left-footed shot from outside the box that beat the goalie to the right.
  • Marin recorded two crucial saves in the second half in the 56th and 57th minutes before Palmer fired a shot on goal in the 58th minute that was saved.
  • The Rams came back with five more shots on target, but Marin saved all of them before Framingham State cut into the lead with a goal to make a 2-1 game.
  • The Cougars didn't allow a shot on goal the rest of the game as Clark came away with a 2-1 win.
