BOSTON, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (11-7, 2-4 NEWMAC) traveled to Boston for a NEWMAC contest against Emerson (10-6, 2-4 NEWMAC) and fell 3-0 to the Lions on Thursday night from the Brown and Plofker Gym.
Clark fell 27-25 in the first set, dropped the second set 25-22, and lost the final set 25-21.
How it Happened
- The Cougars took an early 8-6 lead in the first set as senior Victoria Pastor recorded three kills and graduate student Cameron Gill and senior Sofia Scherrer del Llano.
- Senior Sheyenne Williams registered a kill and a block to help extend the edge to 12-8 and a serve from junior Yvanna Torres helped lead to a bad set as the Cougars led 16-12.
- Junior Camille Sterling and Williams each recorded kills and a Scherrer del Llano service ace before the set helped tie the match at 25-25, but the Lions scored the final two points of the set to win 27-25.
- Emerson jumped out to a 12-5 edge before the scarlet and white scored eight straight points led by kills from senior Camille Flurry and Flurry and a service ace from Gill to take a 13-12 edge.
- Williams registered three more kills and a Sterling kill off a feed from Torres gave Clark a 21-20 lead, but the Lions scored five of the final six points in the set.
- Emerson took a 10-1 lead early in the third set before Clark scored four unanswered points as Torres found Williams to make it 11-6.
- Scherrer del Llano and Pastor made it a 16-11 set and a block from Williams and Flurry made it a 18-13 match.
- Sterling recorded four kills down the stretch and Williams added two more as the team lost 25-21 in the deciding set.
