NEWPORT, RI - Clark men's soccer (3-8-3, 1-3-1 NEWMAC) played their final road match of the regular season at Salve Regina (6-8-0, 0-4-0 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 4-2 win over the Seahawks from Toppa Field.
How it Happened
- Senior Andrew DiStefano recorded his first save of the match in the third minute off a shot from Daniel Goba and fellow senior Anyolo Makatiani nearly got on the board in the sixth minute, but had his shot stopped.
- After another save from DiStefano, Makatiani gave Clark a 1-0 edge with a goal off a feed from senior Teddy Donahue in the 11th minute.
- The Seahawks netted a goal in the 12th minute and DiStefano was able to keep the match tied with a pair of saves over the next 13 minutes of play before junior William Lopez scored off a pass from first-year Luca Echeumuna in the 35th minute to put the Cougars up 2-1.
- Salve answered in the 37th minute to tie the match at 2-2 and before the half, Lopez put a shot on goal that was saved as the team's entered the half tied at 2-2.
- Junior Lucas Saia nearly gave Clark the lead in the 51st minute, but Aidan Figueira was able to come away with a save before Donahue registered the game-winning goal in the 71st minute off a pass from first-year Myles Nelson-Atkins to give the Cougars a 3-2 lead.
- DiStefano added another save in the 74th minute before two more saves in the 80th and 81st minute as the Seahawks continued to push the ball up the pitch.
- Makatiani put a shot on goal that was stopped in the 90th minute, but first-year Marc Kim was there to follow up the shot and give Clark a 4-2 victory.
