Field Hockey Edged by Wellesley in NEWMAC Home Finale

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark field hockey team (4-11, 1-7 NEWMAC) played their final NEWMAC home game of the season against Wellesley (8-8. 4-4 NEWMAC) and fell 4-1 to the Blue on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • Graduate student Abbe Cravinho nearly got Clark on the board in the second minute off a corner serviced in by sophomore Jenna Beauchain, but Kyra Deehr-Lewis recorded a save,
  • Sophomore Alexandra Cacciapaglia stopped her first shot faced of the game in the seventh minute, but the Blue were able to get on the board with a goal from Katie Golla.
  • The Cougars tied the match in the 17th minute as Cravinho found sophomore Fionnuala Gormley and Gormley beat the keeper to tie the match up.
  • After two more Cacciapaglia saves off shots from Cassidy Novello, Wellesley's River Schiff found the back of the cage to take a 2-1 edge into halftime.
  • The Blue added their third goal of the match in the 33rd minute as Sara Maniscalco scored and in the same minute, Cravinho put a shot on goal that was saved.
  • Clark earned four more penalty corners in the third, with the last two resulting in shot attempts from Gormley that were both saved as the match remained 3-1.
  • In the fourth, Novello registered Wellesley's fourth goal and senior Rachael Romain put Clark's lone shot on goal in the period as the Blue came away with a 4-1 win.
