WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (11-6) traveled across town to Worcester State (6-11) for a matchup with the Lancers and came away with a 3-1 win on Thursday night from the John Brissette Court.
Clark took the first set 25-16, the second set 25-19, fell 25-22 in the third, and won 25-15 in the final set.
How it Happened
- The Cougars took an early 7-2 lead sparked by a pair of service aces from junior Emily Newman and kills from junior Camille Sterling and senior Sofia Scherrer del Llano.
- Up 13-9 in the set, Clark went on a 5-2 run to take an 18-11 edge and a service ace from Scherrer del Llano extended the edge to 21-14.
- Clark ended the set on a 4-2 run before opening the second set with six of the first nine points, including a kill from senior Camille Flurry off a feed from junior Yvanna Torres.
- Seniors Victoria Pastor and Scherrer del Llano each registered kills over the next few points and after the Lancers took a 14-13 lead in the set, Clark responded with a 6-0 run sparked by three service aces from sophomore Yumeng Liu to go out 19-14.
- Over the Cougars final six points of the set, Pastor recorded another kill and first-year Harper Chinn registered a service ace as Clark took the set 25-19.
- After Worcester State took a 9-5 edge early in the third set, the Cougars recorded three straight points as Newman recorded a kill and Torres registered a service ace.
- A pair of kills from Pastor later in the set helped tie the set at 16-16 and after three points from the Lancers, Clark answered with five unanswered points, including a pair of kills from graduate student Ava Spach to take a 21-19 lead.
- Worcester State took the set 25-22, but Clark opened the fourth set up 8-3 as Flurry and Williams each registered a pair of kills.
- After the Lancers too an 11-10 edge, Torres recorded a kill off a feed from Liu and Clark went on a 7-0 run sparked by a Pastor service ace to go up 19-12.
- Clark scored the final five points of the set as Williams and Pastor each got kills as the Cougars took the set 25-15.
