Field Hockey Edged by Wheaton on Senior Day

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark field hockey team (4-7, 1-4 NEWMAC) played their senior day game against Wheaton (4-8, 1-4 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field and were edged 1-0 off a goal from Delia Knox.

Seniors Greer McCarty and Rachael Romain were recognized prior to the match for their contributions to Clark Field Hockey.

How it Happened
  • Sophomore Elizabeth Cacciapaglia put the first shot on target of the game in the ninth minute, but had the shot saved by Emma Lapreziosa before Cubbage attempted a pair of shots that were saved, before Knox put the Lyons on the board in the 11th minute.
  • Clark earned a penalty corner early in the second quarter, but had a shot from Romain go just right of the cage to keep the deficit at 1-0 and the score remained the same heading into the half.
  • Cacciapaglia and sophomore Fionnuala Gormley each put shots on target that were saved and before the end of the third, sophomore Alison Kopec got a shot off a corner before the end of the frame, but also had it saved.
  • In the fourth quarter, Romain received a pass from sophomore Jenna Beauchain off a corner and saw her shot hit the post before sophomore netminder Loren Root recorded three critical saves to keep the deficit at one.
  • Clark's final chance came in the final minute when Cacciapaglia sent in a shot off a corner that was stopped in the air by Lapreziosa as the Cougars fell 1-0.

Clark will round out a three-game homestand on Tuesday night with a home game against Nichols at 7:00 p.m. from Granger Field.
