Balanced Offensive Attack Leads Women's Basketball Past Fitchburg State

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Clark women's basketball team (3-0) completed their three-game road trip with a convincing 86-57 victory over Fitchburg State (1-2) on Wednesday night from Parkinson Gymnasium. 

How it Happened

  • Clark jumped out to an early 6-0 lead with made shots from seniors Alaina Schatzabel and Jacqueline Faulise and first-year Emma Drefs and after six unanswered by the Falcons, junior Kumi Tamura converted an and-one as the Cougars led 11-6
  • The Cougars ended the quarter on a 10-4 run sparked by six points from Tamura with a pair of triples and buckets from first-year Catherine Antwi and Faulise as Clark held a 21-10 lead after the first quarter
  • Graduate student Sarah Zambrano scored the first points of the quarter and a made layup from first-year Olivia Shipley extended Clark's edge to 27-13
  • Junior Megan Swedberg converted an and-one with 3:52 to go in the second to go up by 17 and a made layup from Tamura pushed the lead to 34-15 with 3:30 left in the half
  • The Cougars ended the half with 10 more points as Faulise added four points to give Clark a 44-27 lead at the break
  • Faulise scored Clark's first eight points of the third quarter and first-year Kailey Rios made a triple to give the Cougars a 55-35 edge with 5:02 to go
  • The scarlet and white added 11 more points as Faulise added four more points, Tamura hit a triple, and buckets from Shipley and Antwi as Clark led 66-39
  • The Cougars put up 20 points in the fourth as Schatzabel, Drefs, Zambrano, Antwi, Tamura, and first-year Amarna Windross all scored to propel Clark to an 86-57 win

  • Clark collected 44 rebounds, made 36 shots, dished out 16 assists, and scored 32 points off turnovers 
  • Faulise led the team with 24 points and 14 rebounds, for her first double-double of the year
  • Tamura added 18 points, on six made shots
  • Antwi (12) and Shipley (10) also reached double-figures

What's Next
The scarlet and white will play their first home game of the year on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Sarah Lawrence to the Kneller for a game beginning at 2:00 p.m.
