Women's Basketball Falls to Salem State

SALEM, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (5-3) traveled to Salem State (3-3) for a non-conference contest against the Vikings and fell 75-66 on Saturday afternoon from the Tinsley Center.

How it Happened
  • Bridgewater State jumped out to an early 8-4 lead as first-year Kailey Rios and senior Alaina Schatzabel each scored and a Schatzabel layup cut the deficit to two at 8-6.
  • Schatzabel added four more points and a pair of made free throws from junior Megan Swedberg before the end of the quarter as the Cougars trailed 23-15 after one quarter of play.
  • Senior Jacqueline Faulise and Rios hit three's to open the second quarter as Clark trailed 25-21, but the Bears added four unanswered points to extend the lead to eight at 29-21.
  • Schatzabel and Antwi scored before the end of the half as the Cougars trailed 38-25 at the break.
  • Faulise hit a three-pointer out of the half and Schatzabel and Rios each scored as Clark cut the deficit to nine at 41-32 and a triple from Rios brought the Cougars within eight.
  • Graduate student Sarah Zambrano hit a layup, a Rios layup, and a made triple from junior Kumi Tamura pulled Clark within six at 54-48.
  • Faulise hit a layup before the end of the quarter as the Cougars trailed 56-50 entering the fourth.
  • Rios and Antwi scored the first five points of the fourth as the Bears held a 67-56 edge, but the Cougars only got as close as nine at the end of the game as Clark fell 75-66.
Inside the Box Score
  • Clark grabbed 42 rebounds, dished out 13 assists, registered 10 steals, and forced 17 turnovers.
  • Rios netted a team-leading 18 points and made seven shots.
  • Schatzabel recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Antwi also reached double-figures with 10 points.
  • Zambrano added nine points and eight rebounds, Faulise pulled down nine rebounds and scored eight points.

The Cougars will travel to Regis on Tuesday night with a contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
