Fourth Quarter Comeback Pushes Women's Basketball Past Regis

WESTON, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (6-3) registered a come-from-behind fourth quarter 80-76 victory over Regis (2-7) on Tuesday night from Higgins Court.

How it Happened
  • Clark jumped out to an early 9-8 lead sparked by five points from first-year Catherine Antwi and two points from first-year Kailey Rios and a pair of free throws from senior Jacqueline Faulise later in the quarter tied the contest at 11-11.
  • Rios hit a three with 1:14 to go in the first to put the Cougars up 17-16 and another Faulise free throw before the end of the quarter gave Clark an 18-17 lead after one.
  • Antwi scored four of the Cougars first eight points of the second quarter before a layup from junior Megan Swedberg extended the Clark advantage to 28-24.
  • With the lead at only one, Rios hit a jumper and another Faulise free throw before the half gave the scarlet and white a 32-30 lead at the break.
  • Senior Alaina Schatzabel converted an and-one early in the third quarter and a jumper from graduate student Sarah Zambrano gave the Cougars a 37-35 edge.
  • The Pride then went on an 8-0 run before senior Alexis Ross ended the run with a made jumper ending the drought and made it a 43-39 contest.
  • Down eight with 3:20 to go in the third, Rios scored seven unanswered and a layup from Schatzabel helped give Clark a 50-49 lead with 1:47 remaining in the third.
  • The Pride took a 53-51 edge into the fourth and took a 54-51 lead early in the fourth before the Cougars scored 10 unanswered points as Schatzabel netted four points, Faulise, Swedberg, and Antwi all scored as the scarlet and white took a 61-54 lead with 7:16 to go.
  • Regis cut the deficit to four before Antwi connected on a triple to push the lead to 64-57 and another Rios triple extended the advantage to 67-59 with 4:13 remaining.
  • The Cougars led by four before Antwi made another three-pointer off a feed from Faulise to take a 70-63 lead with 2:32 to go.
  • Rios kept the lead at seven at 74-67 with 1:05 remaining and two made free throws gave Clark a 76-67 lead.
  • The Pride outscored Clark 9-4 down the stretch, but a pair of Faulise free throws with 14 seconds remaining helped the Cougars come away with an 80-76 win.  
Inside the Box Score
  • Clark grabbed 43 rebounds, dished out 11 assists, registered 15 steals, and forced 22 turnovers.
  • Rios netted a team-leading 21 points, six steals, and pulled down five rebounds.
  • Antwi scored 19 points and added four steals.  
  • Schatzabel registered 13 points and grabbed six rebounds.
  • Faulise also reached double-figures with 11 points and pulled down six rebounds.

Clark will play their final game before the holiday break on Saturday afternoon with a road match at Suffolk beginning at 1:00 p.m.
