Women's Basketball Cruises to 66-39 Win Over Colby-Sawyer

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (7-4) played their final game of the 2023 portion of their schedule and came away with a convincing 66-39 victory over Colby-Sawyer (2-7) on Saturday afternoon from the Kneller Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • The Cougars jumped out to an early 7-2 lead sparked by four points from senior Alaina Schatzabel and a triple from first-year Kailey Rios before a layup from fellow first-year Catherine Antwi kept the edge at four after the Chargers cut into the deficit.
  • Junior Kumi Tamura connected on a three-pointer and a free throw from graduate student Sarah Zambrano helped the Cougars take a 13-7 lead into the second quarter.
  • Colby-Sawyer hit a three to open the second quarter to make it a 13-10 contest, but Clark held the Chargers to no points the remainder of the quarter and netted 16 points, led by five points from Rios and a triple from Antwi as the Cougars took a 29-10 edge into the half.
  • Zambrano and Schatzabel scored the first four points of the third and a layup from Rios with 6:35 to go in the third as Clark held a commanding 39-13 lead.
  • Antwi and Tamura traded three-pointers in the middle of the third before Tamura hit her third triple of the game and fellow first-year Emma Drefs buried a three before the end of the period as Clark entered the fourth quarter up 54-25.
  • Zambrano scored a team-leading four points in the fourth and also got three points from both Rios and sophomore Ashley Leighton as Clark came away with a 66-39 victory.

  • Clark grabbed 56 rebounds, dished out 14 assists, registered 19 steals, and forced 29 turnovers.
  • Schatzabel led the team with 16 points and seven rebounds.
  • Rios added 13 points and hit three three-pointers.
  • Tamura also reached double-figures with 10 points and also hit three triples.
  • Zambrano grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds and scored seven points.
What's Next
The scarlet and white will return to the court on Tuesday with a road contest at Brandeis beginning at 5:00 p.m.
