Women's Basketball Bested by Suffolk on Saturday

BOSTON, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (6-4) played their final game before the holiday break with a road contest at Suffolk (7-1) and fell 63-42 to the Rams on Saturday afternoon from the Larry and Michael Smith Court.

How it Happened
  • Suffolk jumped out to an early 11-3 lead despite a made layup from senior Alaina Schatzabel and a free throw from senior Jacqueline Faulise before Clark ended the first quarter with a made triple from first-year Emma Drefs and a made layup from Schatzbel as the Cougars trailed 16-8 after one.
  • Faulise cut the deficit to five with a made three-pointer off a feed from first-year Kailey Rios before Rams scored four straight points, but a Drefs jumper with 8:01 remaining in the second pulled Clark back within seven at 20-13.
  • After nine straight Suffolk points, junior Megan Swedberg and Faulise each hit free throws before a Faulise jumped pulled Clark within 13 with 4:18 to go in the second.
  • Rios and Schatzabel scored the final four points of the half for the Cougars trailed 37-22 at the break.
  • First-year Olivia Shipley led the team with four points in the third quarter, while Faulise, Swedberg, and Drefs also scored in the period as the Rams led by 22 entering the fourth.
  • The Cougars outscored Suffolk by a point in the fourth as Shipley added four more points and senior Alexis Ross, Schatzabel, and graduate student Simone Fiore all scored in the period as Clark fell 63-42.
Inside the Box Score
  • Clark grabbed 41 rebounds, dished out nine assists, registered nine steals, and forced 22 turnovers.
  • Faulise led the team with 11 points and hit a pair of triples.
  • Shipley added eight points and a team-leading seven rebounds.
  • Eight Cougars scored in the contest.

The Cougars will be back in action in three weeks when they welcome Colby-Sawyer to the Kneller for a home game against Colby-Sawyer beginning at 1:00 p.m.
