Box Score TROY, N.Y. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (0-1) opened their 2023 season with a road contest at No. 17 RPI (1-1), but were edged 17-2 by the Engineers on Wednesday afternoon from ECAV Stadium.
How it Happened
- After RPI took a 1-0 lead with 12:55 to go in the first, Clark responded with a pair of goals as junior Attilio LaVecchia scored a man-up goal off a feed from graduate student Benjamin Hollerbach and sophomore Matt Wells netted a goal with 6:39 left in the first as the Cougars led 2-1.
- Graduate student Ryan Mickelson then made a save on a shot from Tyler Ruffini and Hollerbach nearly extended the lead to two goals multiple times, but had his shots saved by Joseph Perry.
- RPI scored the final three goals of the first quarter despite a pair of shots on goal from Hollerbach and junior Keegan McMahan had shots stopped as the Engineers led 4-2.
- After RPI netted another goal, senior John D'Eufemia created a chance that was saved with 14:11 to go in the second quarter before the Engineers pushed the lead to 7-2.
- Junior Casey McCullough then entered the game in goal for Clark and recorded six saves before the break as RPI took a 10-2 edge into the half.
- Wells, Hollerbach, and McMahan each put shots on target to open the third quarter that were saved and McCullough followed that up with four saves.
- In the fourth quarter, McCullough added two more saves and junior Patrick Liddy put a shot on goal as the Cougars dropped their season opener.
