Men's Lacrosse Edged by Salve Regina in Florida Finale

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (0-4) played their final game in Florida on Saturday afternoon and fell 14-6 to Salve Regina (3-1) from the Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex.

How it Happened

  • Senior Dylan Harloff opened the game with a save before the Seahawks netted a pair of early goals to take a 2-0 lead.
  • After Salve added a third goal, junior Matthew Minkwitz found the back of the net off a feed from fellow junior Colin Howard with 9:22 to go in the first quarter to make it a 3-1 game.
  • The Seahawks then netted the contests next three goals and junior Attilio LaVecchia nearly ended the run with a shot, but William Kein came away with a save on the shot.
  • Minkwitz put Clark's final shot of the first on target, but was again saved as Clark trailed 6-1.
  • Graduate student Ryan Mickelson recorded three early saves in the second quarter before graduate student Benjamin Hollerbach found the back of the goal off a pass from senior Declan Fitzpatrick to make it a 6-2 contest.
  • Sopphomore Harry Leduc brought Clark within three at 6-3 with a goal off a pass from senior Daniel Cook with 10:46 remaining in the second.
  • Mickelson made three more saves before the Seahawks added another goal and Hollerbach created a dangerous chance with 3:44 to go in the second, but the shot hit the post and later sophomore Matt Wells had his shot saved by Kein.
  • Salve added another goal before the half to go up 8-3 and Hollerbach opened the third quarter with a goal off a pass from LaVecchia to make it an 8-4 game.
  • LaVecchia netted Clark's next goal off a pass from junior Patrick Liddy with 8:50 to go in the third in a 9-5 contest, before the Seahawks closed out the quarter on a 3-0 run to go up 12-5 heading into the fourth.
  • Junior Casey McCullough came into net for Clark towards the end of the third and opened the fourth with a save before Hollerbach nearly scored again as he hit the post with 10:02 left in the fourth.
  • Fitzpatrick scored Clark's final goal of the game with 2:06 to go off a pass from graduate student Noah Skole as the Cougars fell 14-6.

  • Clark fired 26 shots, scooped up 25 ground balls, and forced 18 turnovers.
  • Hollerbach led the way with a pair of goals.
  • LaVecchia and Fitzpatrick each added a goal and an assist.
  • Junior Keegan McMahahn scooped up a team-leading five ground balls.
  • Mickelson recorded nine saves.

Men's lacrosse will hit the field again on Saturday when they open up NEWMAC play against MIT beginning at 3:00 p.m.
