Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (0-5, 0-1 NEWMAC) began conference play with a home contest against MIT (5-1, 1-0 NEWMAC) and fell 22-9 to the Engineers on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.
How it Happened
- MIT took an early 2-0 lead before graduate student Ryan Mickelson recorded a save to keep the deficit at two.
- Graduate student Mark Zito put a shot on target with 5:52 to go in the first that was stopped by Devin McCabe and Clark got on the board with 3:50 remaining in the quarter when graduate student Benjamin Hollerbach found the back of the net off a feed from junior Matthew Minkwitz to make it a 7-1 game.
- Graduate student Tommy McCarthy netted a man-up goal for Clark off a feed from junior Patrick Liddy with 1:32 left in the first to get back within six at 8-2.
- Junior Colin Howard scored early in the second quarter for the team's third goal of the game and sophomore Matt Wells netted a man-up goal off a pass from Hollerbach to make it a 12-4 contest.
- Howard scored again before the half and Minkwitz put a shot on target that was saved as the Cougars trailed 13-5.
- Wells put a pair of shots on goal to open the second half that were saved before finding the back of the net with 8:07 left in the third off a feed from Hollerbach to make it a 13-6 contest.
- Senior Declan Fitzpatrick added the team's seventh goal off a pass from Hollerbach to make it 14-7 and Mickelson recorded three saves in the final three minutes of the third in a 15-7 game.
- Zito and Hollerbach scored Clark's final two goals of the contest as the Engineers won 22-9.
