Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (3-8) played their first game since spring break and came away with a convincing 5-0 win over Anna Maria (2-7) on Tuesday night from Rooftop Field on the campus of WPI.
Game One: Clark 5, Anna Maria 0
- First-year Brooke Buzzeo pitched a scoreless first inning and in the bottom of the first, junior Rebecca Mauro singled to right field, driving in junior Samantha Crowley to give Clark a 1-0 lead.
- After Buzzeo set the Amcats down in order in the top of the second and got graduate student Jessica Martin and senior Allessia Mauro on base before Anna Maria got out of the jam.
- In the bottom of the third, Clark added a pair of runs as first-year Erin Slavin belted her first career homer to left field and graduate student Kaylee Gibson drove in Rebecca Mauro with a base hit up the middle to make it a 3-0 game.
- Buzzeo tossed scoreless innings in the fourth and fifth before Clark loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth when Rebecca Mauro, first-year Felicia Salvatti, and first-year Madeline Dillon each reached base, but the Amcats got out of the jam.
- The Cougars added two runs to their lead in the bottom of the sixth as first-year Magdalena Barthel and Crowley came around to score on hits from Rebecca Mauro and Salvatti to take a 5-0 lead.
- Anna Maria got runners on first and third in the top of the seventh before Buzzeo struck out the final batter of the game to secure the shutout and a 5-0 win.
Inside the Stats
- Buzzeo pitched 7.0 shutout innings, struck out six batters, and only allowed three hits.
- Mauro went 2-3 with an RBI, a run scored, and a walk.
- Crowley was 1-3 with two runs scored and drew a walk.
- Salvati and Gibson also drove in runs.
