Softball Drops Doubleheader at Regis

WESTON, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (3-10) traveled to Regis (2-6) for a Friday doubleheader against the Pride and were edged in both games from the Regis Softball Field.

Game One: Regis 10, Clark 8

  • Graduate student Kaylee Gibson singled to center field in the bottom of the first that plated junior Samantha Crowley and a double steal from Gibson and first-year Felicia Salvati to give Clark a 2-1 lead.
  • After a scoreless second, Regis plated four runs in the top of the third and in the bottom of the third, senior Eliza Lindberg and junior Rebecca Mauro each reached base, but were left on base.
  • First-year Emilie Spence tripled to right center to plate first-year Keira Langus and Crowley drove in Spencer to make it a 6-4 game in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Trailing 10-4 in the sixth, Spence recorded another triple in the bottom of the sixth that plated first-year Ella Traynor to get back within five at 10-5.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Clark scored three runs as Salvati and senior Reilly Bronson each recorded RBI doubles and Traynor hit a sacrifice fly in a contest that finished 10-8.
  • Spencer went 2-2 with a pair of triples, two RBI's, stole a base, and a run scored.
  • Salvati was 1-3 with two runs scored, a stolen base, and an RBI.

Game Two: Regis 4, Clark 1

  • First-year Brooke Buzzeo took the bump for Clark in game two and retired the side in order in the top of the first before Crowley and Mauro each singled in the bottom of the first, but neither came around to score.
  • After scoreless second and third innings, the Pride scored a run in the top of the fourth and in the bottom of the fifth, Crowley and Lindberg each singled, but were stranded on base as Clark still trailed 1-0.
  • Regis scored two runs in the top the sixth before the Cougars loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth as graduate student Jessica Martin, Spence, and Gibson each reached base, but the Pride struck out the final two batters of the inning.
  • Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Crowley scored on a wild pitch and Lindberg reached third before the Cougars fell 4-1.
  • Crowley went 3-3 with a run scored and a drawn walk.
  • Lindberg was 2-4 in the contest.

What's Next

Clark will return to play on Tuesday with a doubleheader at Worcester State beginning at 4:00 p.m.
