Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (1-6) played the first of their three-game homestand when they welcomed Eastern Connecticut (3-5) to Granger and earned their first win of the year with a 13-9 victory on Wednesday night.
How it Happened
- Graduate student Ryan Mickelson recorded the first save of the game less than a minute in and made three more saves before junior Patrick Liddy netted a goal that gave Clark a 1-0 lead with 9:56 remaining in the first.
- Off a faceoff win by graduate student Mark Zito, Zito found fellow graduate student Benjamin Hollerbach, who beat the keeper to extend the advantage to 2-0 13 seconds after Liddy's goal.
- After the Warriors got back within one, sophomore Matt Wells scored a man-up goal off a pass from junior Attilio LaVecchia to push the edge to 3-1 with 6:38 to go in the first.
- Senior John D'Eufemia beat the Eastern Connecticut defense with 5:47 remaining to give Clark a 4-1 lead.
- Just over two minutes later, junior Matthew Minkwitz netted a goal off a feed from Wells to take a 5-1 edge.
- Wells scored his second goal of the game with 13:21 remaining in the second off a feed from senior Declan Fitzpatrick to push the lead to 6-1.
- Mickelson then recorded three saves before first-year Lucas Cuda found the back off the goal off another pass from Fitzpatrick to take a 7-1 advantage.
- After two goals from Eastern Connecticut, Fitzpatrick scooped up a ground ball off a shot from Hollerbach and Fitzpatrick scored off the rebound to make it an 8-3 contest.
- Hollerbach found Wells right before the end of the half as Clark took a 9-5 lead into the break.
- Mickelson recorded another save right out of the half and Fitzpatrick had a shot saved with 11:29 to go in the third.
- Sophomore Alex D'Entrone added to the Clark lead with 6:28 remaining in the third to push the advantage to 10-6.
- Hollerbach and LaVecchia had shots saved before Wells added a man-up goal with 2:58 to go in the third to take an 11-6 edge.
- Just over 30 seconds later, Wells found Fitzpatrick as Clark extended the lead up to six at 12-6.
- After the Warriors added a pair of goals, Mickelson stopped three more shots in the fourth before Wells netted a goal off a feed from graduate student Noah Skole to take a 13-8 lead with 4:28 remaining.
- Junior Casey McCullough recorded a pair of saves in goal before the end of the game as Clark came away with a 13-9 win.
