Box Score 2 NAPLES, Fla. – The Clark University softball team (1-3) recorded their first win of the season with a victory over Potsdam and a loss to John Carroll on Monday afternoon from the North Collier Sports Complex.
Game One: John Carroll 8, Clark 0
- With Clark trailing 2-0, senior Nicole Buckley entered the game and posted a pair of shutout innings in which she only allowed one hit before John Carroll added another run in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 3-0.
- Junior Rebecca Mauro got on base for Clark in the top of the fifth with a base hit to left and reached second on a wild pitch, but was left on base before John Carroll added two runs in the fifth and sixth as they came away with an 8-0 win.
Game Two: Clark 4, Potsdam 1
- First-year Brooke Buzzeo took the bump for Clark in game two and opened the game with a shutout first inning.
- Clark scored three runs in the bottom of the first with an RBI single through the right side from Mauro and runs scored from senior Eliza Lindberg and Mauro to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead after one inning of play.
- Junior Samantha Crowley singled and stole second to open the bottom of the second before Lindberg and Mauro walked to load the bases, but were left on base to keep the game tied.
- After three more shutout innings from Buzzeo, first-year Felicia Salvati singled to right field and nearly drove in a run, but the right fielder was able to make a throw to the plate to keep the game tied at 3-0.
- In the sixth, Clark extended the lead to 4-0 as Crowley scored on a wild pitch and the Cougars only allowed one run in the top of the seventh to come away with a 4-1 win.
- Crowley and Salvati each had two hits in the game.
- Buzzeo earned her first win, pitching a complete game, and allowed no earned runs.
