Men's Lacrosse Falls to Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (0-3) played their first game of spring break when they took on Florida Southern (4-2) and fell 22-9 to the Mocs on Wednesday afternoon from Berend Field.

How it Happened

  • The Cougars took an early 1-0 lead when junior Attilio LaVecchia found junior Patrick Liddy for his first goal of the season.
  • After the Mocs tied the game at 1-1, senior John D'Eufemia had a shot saved before Florida Southern netted two more goals to make it a 3-1 contest with 9:53 to go in the first.
  • Senior Dylan Harloff then made three saves over the next three minutes and junior Colin Howard nearly pulled Clark back within one, but had his shot stopped by Michael Simone.
  • Sophomore Matt Wells netted his fourth goal of the year off a feed from sophomore Alex D'Entrone as Clark made it a 4-2 game.
  • Harloff made a save to open the second quarter and graduate student Benjamin Hollerbach had his shot stopped before Florida Southern added a pair of games to make it a 7-2 contest.
  • Hollerbach then scored a man-up goal with 8:30 left in the second off a feed from Howard as the Cougars made it a 7-3 game.
  • Harloff recorded three more saves before the half as the Mocs led 11-3 and right out of the half, Wells nearly netted his second goal, but the shot hit the post.
  • Sophomore Ryan Kerr and D'Entrone had consecutive shots saved by Simone before Harloff tallied four more saves before the end of the third.
  • In the fourth, graduate student Tommy McCarthy, Howard, LaVecchia, Hollerbach, D'Entrone, and senior Declan Fitzpatrick scored as the Cougars fell 22-9.

  • Clark fired 34 shots, scooped up 38 ground balls, and forced 15 turnovers.
  • Hollerbach led the way with two goals and two assists.
  • LaVecchia, D'Entrone, and Howard each added a goal and an assist.

Men's lacrosse will play their final game in Florida on Saturday when they take on Salve Regina beginning at 12:00 p.m.
