Box Score 2 NAPLES, Fla. – The Clark University softball team (2-6) dropped a pair of contests today in Florida today as they took on WestConn and Drew from the North Collier Sports Complex in the Gene Cusic Classic.
Game One: WestConn 9, Clark 1 (F/5)
- Senior Nicole Buckley pitched a scoreless first and second inning before the Cougars took a 1-0 lead when first-year Felicia Salvatti scored on a failed pickoff attempt after getting on base with a single to center field.
- First-year Ella Traynor singled down the right field line later in the second inning, but was left on base.
- After WestConn tied the game up in the top of the third, they exploded for eight runs in the top of the fourth to take a 9-1 lead.
- First-year Keira Langus pitched a scoreless top of the fifth, but Clark couldn't plate a run in the bottom of the fifth as they fell.
- Salvatti and Traynor combined for the two Cougar hits.
Game Two: Drew 6, Clark 5 (F/8)
- First-year Brooke Buzzeo took the bump for Clark in game two and allowed one run in the bottom of the first, while forcing a ground out to end the first inning.
- Fellow first-year Erin Slavin singled in the top of the second and Buzzeo tossed a pair of scoreless innings in the second and third.
- Clark took the lead in the top of the fourth when first-year Alyssa Briggs drove in a run and Slavin hit a sacrifice fly that scored first-year Sydney Lyons to go up 2-1.
- The Cougars added two more runs to their lead when junior Samantha Crowley scored and Salvatti drove in senior Eliza Lindberg to extend the advantage to 4-1.
- The Rangers fought back scoring a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to tie the game and Crowley reached third in the top of the seventh, but was left on base in a 4-4 game.
- Buzzeo retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.
- Briggs drove in first-year Madison Dillon in the top of the eighth to give Clark a 5-4 lead, but Drew walked off in the bottom of the eighth with a pair of runs.
- Crowley went 2-3 with a run scored and a walk.
- Salvati added two hits and an RBI.
- Briggs (2) and Slavin (1) also drove in runs.
- Buzzeo pitched 7.0 innings, struck out three batters, and only allowed three earned runs.
