WEYMOUTH, Mass. – The Clark men's tennis team (2-6, 1-2 NEWMAC) earned their first conference win of the year with a 6-3 victory over Emerson (0-14, 0-3 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon from the Weymouth Tennis Club.
How it Happened
- In number one doubles, senior Dariy Vykhodtsev and first-year Graham Russo came away with an 8-4 victory to give Clark an early 1-0 lead,
- Junior Tanner Honnef and sophomore Ryan Hovey earned the Cougars second doubles win of the day with an 8-4 victory in number two doubles.
- In number three singles, Russo fought back after dropping the first set 7-6, to win 6-3 in the second set, and won the tiebreak in set three.
- Hovey also earned a win in singles with a 6-2, 6-3 in number four singles.
- Senior Matt Lee (No. 5) and sophomore Aidan Hurtado (No. 6) also recorded singles victories, with Lee coming away with a 6-2, 6-4 win and Hurtado won 6-0, 6-0.
- Vykhodtsev battled in number one singles, but fell 6-4, 7-6 (4).
- In number two singles, Honnef took the match three sets as he dropped the first set 4-6, won 6-4 in set two, and fell 4-6 in the final set.
- First-years Fergus Brady and Sai Chanda played together in number three doubles, but were edged 8-5.
What's Next
The Cougars will be back in action on Monday with a home match against Bridgewater State beginning at 4:00 p.m.
