Box Score 2 DUDLEY, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (4-21) traveled to Nichols (10-11-1) for an early week series with the Bison, but were edged in both games on Tuesday afternoon from the Nichols Softball Field.
Game One: Nichols 9, Clark 1 (F/5)
- The Cougars jumped out to early 1-0 when first-year Felicia Salvati hit a ball that was able to score senior Eliza Lindberg.
- After the Bison put up three runs in the bottom of the first, first-year Madison Dillon doubled to right field in the top of the second, but was unable to come around to score.
- Senior Jessica Sardilli held Nichols scoreless in the bottom of the second before junior Rebecca Mauro also doubled in the top of the third, but again the Bison got out of the jam.
- Sardilli held Nichols scoreless in the fourth before the Bison were able to plate four in the bottom of the fifth and win 9-1.
Game Two: Nichols 10, Clark 6
- The Cougars again jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first as Mauro belted a two-RBI double to right center scoring first-year Emelie Spence and Lindberg and first-year Magdalena Barthel drove in Mauro with a single up the middle.
- After a scoreless first inning from first-year Brooke Buzzeo, the Bison plated four runs between the second and the third to take a 4-3 lead.
- In the top of the fifth, Clark added three more runs as graduate student Kaylee Gibson hit a ball that scored Mauro and Lindberg and Barthel doubled to right field to plate Salvati and give the Cougars a 6-4 edge.
- The Bison however would answer with six runs in the bottom of the fifth and Clark loaded the bases in the top of the seventh as Mauro, Gibson, and Barthel reached base, but the Bison recorded the final out to win 10-6.
What's Next
The Cougars will return home for a NEWMAC doubleheader against Coast Guard on Friday beginning at 3:00 p.m. from O'Brien Field.
