NORTON, Mass. – The Clark men's tennis team (4-8, 2-4 NEWMAC) punched their ticket to this season's NEWMAC Quarterfinals as they came away with a 7-2 victory over Wheaton (4-10, 1-5 NEWMAC) on Wednesday afternoon from the Clark Tennis Courts.
Clark earned their fourth consecutive ticket to the postseason with the victory and will play either Springfield or Coast Guard in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals next week.
How it Happened
- Senior Dariy Vykhodtsev and first-year Graham Russo came away with a thrilling 8-7 (7-5) victory in number one doubles against Anschuetz and Luyrink.
- In number two doubles, junior Tanner Honnef and sophomore Ryan Hovey came away with a convincing 8-5 win over Bor and Na.
- Clark swept doubles to take a 3-0 lead as graduate student Max Schweitzer and senior Matt Lee came away with an 8-6 victory against Fellows and Hanlon.
- In number three singles, Russo took the first set 6-4 and won the second set by the same score at 6-4 over Bor.
- Sophomore Aidan Hurtado was able to win his number six singles match in straight sets with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Register.
- Hovey (No. 4) and Lee (No. 5) both played competitive matches in which the second set saw each win as Hovey took his match 6-3, 7-6 and Lee won 6-2, 7-5.
- Vykhodtsev (No. 1) and Honnef (No. 2) each played competitive matches, but fell 6-3, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-3, respectively.
What's Next
Clark will close out the regular season Friday with a home match against Colby-Sawyer beginning at 4:00 p.m. from the Corash Tennis Courts.
