Box Score 2 WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (4-23, 0-8 NEWMAC) played their first NEWMAC home series of the year against Coast Guard (20-4, 6-2 NEWMAC), but were topped by the Bears in both contests on Friday afternoon from O'Brien Field.
Game One: Coast Guard 10, Clark 0 (F/5)
- The Bears plated eight runs in the top of the first and in the bottom of the first, Clark loaded the bases as senior Eliza Lindberg, junior Rebecca Mauro, and first-year Magdalena Barthel each reached base, but Coast Guard got out of the jam.
- In the bottom of the second, first-years Madison Dillon and Emelie Spence each singled, but were left on base.
- After senior Nicole Buckley tossed a scoreless third inning, Mauro and first-year Erin Slavin each reached base in the bottom of the third as Mauro walked and Slavin singled to right before the Bears got out of the inning.
- Senior Natalie Stilwell and first-year Caitriona Andre each found their way on base in the bottom of the fourth, but were held hitless in the fifth after senior Jessica Sardilli threw a scoreless top of the inning.
Game Two: Coast Guard 9, Clark 1 (F/6)
- Coast Guard scored the first three runs of the game in the top of the first and first-year Brooke Buzzeo tossed a scoreless second before first-year Felicia Salvati singled through the right side in the bottom of the second.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Mauro singled through the ride side and after Salvati got on base, Salvati came around to score on a wild pitch to make it an 8-1 contest.
- Buzzeo tossed a scoreless fifth and in the bottom of the fifth, graduate student Jessica Martin singled to center and in the bottom of the sixth, Mauro singled through the left side and reached third, but was unable to reach home as Clark fell in game two.
What's Next
Clark is set to play a home doubleheader and host their pride day game on Saturday afternoon with a home series against Wellesley beginning at 12:00 p.m.
