Men's Lacrosse Drops Non-Conference Contest Against Skidmore

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (4-8) opened their week with a non-conference matchup against Skidmore (9-5) and were edged 20-10 by the Thoroughbreds on Wednesday evening from Granger Field.

How it Happened

  • After Skidmore jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, graduate student Benjamin Hollerbach found the back of the net to cut the deficit in half with 10:35 to go in the first.
  • First-year Brett Newman got the ball after a save from graduate student Ryan Mickelson and took it the length of the field and beat Skidmore's goalie to make it a 4-2 game.
  • After a pair of Thoroughbred goals, Hollerbach netted his second goal of the game with 1:20 to go in the first quarter as the graduate student made it a 6-3 contest.
  • Mickelson recorded three saves early in the second before junior Matthew Minkwitz added a goal off a feed from fellow junior Attilio LaVecchia in an 8-4 game.
  • Hollerbach netted his third goal of the contest off a feed from graduate student Tommy McCarthy with 6:53 remaining in the second to get Clark within three at 8-5.
  • Minkwitz and first-year Jake Nudelman scored Clark's final goal before the half, with the Nudelman goal coming off a feed from graduate student Sawyer Kindel as the Cougars trailed 11-7.
  • Junior Patrick Liddy netted a goal off a feed from Hollerbach less than four minutes into the third making it a 12-8 contest.
  • Later in the quarter, junior Colin Howard and sophomore Matt Wells each scored to get the deficit back to four at 14-10.
  • In the fourth, Liddy, MInkwitz, and Hollerbach each put shots on target that were saved as the Cougars fell 20-10.

Inside the Box Score

  • Clark fired 31 shots, scooped up 32 ground balls, and forced 16 turnovers.
  • Hollerbach netted three goals and dished out an assist.
  • Minkwitz added a pair of goals.
  • Graduate student Mark Zito scooped up 10 ground balls.
