Box Score 2 BOSTON, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (5-26, 1-11 NEWMAC) earned their first NEWMAC victory of the year as they split a Friday series with Emerson (14-16, 2-10 NEWMAC) as they fell in game one and won game two from Rotch Field.
Game One: Emerson 4, Clark 1
- Senior Jessica Sardilli took the mound for Clark in game one and tossed a scoreless first before the Lions plated four runs in the bottom of the second.
- Sardilli tossed a scoreless third and first-year Brooke Buzzeo pitched a scoreless fourth before junior Samantha Crowley drove in first-year Erin Slavin with a single to center field to make it a 4-1 game.
- In the top of the sixth, graduate student Kaylee Gibson singled to left and graduate student Jessica Martin reached base before Emerson got out of the jam.
- Sophomore Ashleigh Hughes and junior Rebecca Mauro each drew walks in the top of the seventh, but were left on base as the Lions won 4-1.
Game Two: Clark 7, Emerson 3
- The Cougars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Mauro singled to left field to score Crowley.
- Emerson tied the game in the bottom of the first and took a lead in the bottom of the second before first-year Keira Langus tossed a scoreless third.
- In the top of the fourth, first-year Magdalena Barthel singled to right field to score Gibson and Langus helped her own cause on the bump with a double to left center that plated Barthel to give Clark a 3-2 lead.
- After a scoreless fifth, the Cougars plated three runs as Langus drove in Mauro, first-year Emelie Spence drove in Gibson, and Langus came around to score on a ball hit by Crowley as Clark led 6-2.
- The Lions scored a run in the bottom of the sixth and in the top of the seventh, Barthel doubled to center and drove in Mauro as Clark won 7-3.

Clark will be back in action tomorrow with their final road doubleheader of the year from WPI beginning at 12:00 p.m.
