Box Score 2 WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (6-29, 2-14 NEWMAC) played their final Friday home series of the year on Friday afternoon with a pair of NEWMAC games against Smith (13-21, 4-12 NEWMAC) and split the series with the Pioneers on Friday afternoon from O'Brien Field.
Game One: Smith 13, Clark 12
- First-year Keira Langus tossed a scoreless top of the first before Clark took a 4-0 lead as first-year Felicia Salvati hit a ball that scored junior Samantha Crowley, junior Rebecca Mauro, Salvati, and Langus also scored in the bottom of the inning.
- Langus pitched two more scoreless innings before Langus belted a double to right field that scored Salvati and Langus came around to score and make it a 6-0 contest.
- After the Pioneers got within one in the top of the fourth, senior Eliza Lindberg singled to left center, plating first-year Emelie Spence to make it 7-5 in the bottom of the fourth.
- Smith took a 10-7 edge in the top of the fifth and in the bottom of the sixth, the Cougars fought back with five runs scored in the bottom of the sixth as Crowley scored, graduate student Kaylee Gibson drove in a run, first-year Brooke Buzzeo brought home a run, first-year Magdalena Barthel drove in Salvati, and Spence singled through the left side to plate Buzzeo to take a 12-10 lead.
- The Pioneers scored three runs in the top of the seventh and in the bottom of the seventh, got a pair of runners on base, but Smith got out of the jam to win 13-12.
Game Two: Clark 10, Smith 9
- Senior Jessica Sardilli took the mound for the Cougars in game two and after the Pioneers scored one run in the top of the first, Sardilli allowed no runs in the second, third, or fourth inning.
- During that span, Clark plated 10 runs, with five coming in the second inning as Gibson belted an RBI double, first-year Caitriona Andre drove in a run, before Mauro hit a bases clearing double to left field to give Clark a 5-1 lead.
- The other five runs came in the fourth as Crowley, Salvati, and Barthel each drove in runs before Salvati came around to score and gave the Cougars a 10-1 edge.
- In the fifth, the Pioneers plated six runs and in the sixth added two more runs before Buzzeo shut down the Pioneers in order in the ninth as Clark won 10-9.
What's Next
Clark will close out their season on Saturday morning as they host their senior day against Babson beginning at 10:00 a.m. from O'Brien Field.
