Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (5-9, 3-3 NEWMAC) played their final game of the regular season with a home contest against Springfield (6-9, 5-1 NEWMAC) and led at the half before the Pride came away with an 11-10 win on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.
Clark will be the No. 4 seed in the NEWMAC Tournament and is set to host No, 5 Coast Guard in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals on Tuesday, May 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Granger Field.
How it Happened
- After graduate student Ryan Mickelson recorded a pair of early saves, graduate student Benjamin Hollerbach gave Clark an early 1-0 lead off a feed from sophomore Alex D'Entrone with 11:34 to go in the first quarter.
- After Springfield tied the game, Mickelson registered two more saves and after three saves to open the second, Hollerbach gave Clark a 2-1 lead off a feed from senior Zachary Conant.
- Graduate student Mark Zito won the ensuing faceoff and took it to the net, beating the Pride's netminder to push the edge to 3-1.
- Junior Colin Howard netted a goal less than a minute later to go up 4-1 off a pass from sophomore Matt Wells with 11:00 to go in the second.
- The Pride netted a goal to get within two, but Clark added two more goals before the half as junior Matthew Minkwitz scored off a feed from Hollerbach and Hollerbach netted a goal from junior Attilio LaVecchia to give the Cougars a 6-2 edge.
- Springfield added a pair of goals before the half and tied the game at 6-6 in the third before Conant put a shot on goal that was saved.
- Mickelson recorded four more saves before the end of the third as the Pride took an 8-6 lead into the fourth and early in the fourth, LaVecchia and Hollerbach each added shots on goal that were saved.
- The Pride extended their lead to 10-6 before Clark responded with a pair of goals as Minkwitz and graduate student Tommy McCarthy each scored to make it a 10-8 contest with 7:54 to go.
- Trailing 11-8, Minkwitz and LaVecchia scored a pair of goals, with the LaVecchia goal coming with 0:22 to go to make it 11-10, but Clark was unable to get a final shot as Springfield came away with a victory.
