Box Score 2 WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (6-31, 2-16 NEWMAC) closed out their 2023 season with a pair of losses to Babson (21-19, 10-8 NEWMAC) on senior on Saturday from O'Brien Field.
Prior to the game, graduate students Kaylee Gibson and Jessica Martin and seniors Natalie Stilwell, Allessia Mauro, Jessica Sardilli, Reilly Bronson, and Eliza Lindberg were honored for their contributions to Clark softball.
Game One: Babson 9, Clark 5
- Sardilli took the mound for the Cougars in game one and pitched a scoreless first before first-year Felicia Salvati singled to center field, plating juniors Rebecca Mauro and Samantha Crowley to give Clark a 2-0 lead.
- Sardilli got out of a pair of bases loaded jams in the second and third innings before the Beavers cut into the lead with a run in the top of the fourth before Salvati came around to score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth to extend the edge to 3-1.
- After a scoreless fifth, the Beavers added four runs in the top of the sixth to give them a 5-3 lead before Clark tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth as first-year Emelie Spence hit a ball that ended up scoring Martin and Gibson.
- Babson added four runs in the top of the seventh to come away with a 9-5 victory.
Game Two: Babson 4, Clark 0
- Babson plated a run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead and in the bottom of the first, Mauro and Salvati each singled, but were left on base.
- The Beavers added a run in the top of the second and first-year Keira Langus tossed a scoreless third and fourth before first-year Magdalena Barthel singled, but again Babson got out of the jam.
- First-year Erin Slavin and Spence each singled in the bottom of the fifth before Babson recorded the final out of the inning to keep a 2-0 edge.
- The Beavers scored a run in the top of the sixth and in the bottom of the sixth, Mauro reached third base and Barthel got on base, but the Beavers recorded the final out of the inning.
- Langus recorded the Cougars final hit of the season in the bottom of the seventh with a single through the left side before the Beavers came away with a 4-0 win.
