Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (2-7) closed out their three-game homestand with a contest against Kean (9-2) on Wednesday night from Granger Field and dropped a back-and-forth contest 11-8.
How it Happened
- Sophomore Alex D'Entrone gave Clark an early 1-0 lead as he was able to beat the goalie off a feed from senior John D'Eufemia.
- Sophomore Matt Wells nearly pushed the lead to two, but had his shot saved before junior Attilio LaVecchia hit the post with 7:24 left in the first.
- Graduate student Ryan Mickelson recorded his first save of the game with 7:00 remaining in the period before Kean added a pair of goals to take a 3-1 lead.
- Junior Colin Howard then cut the deficit to one at 3-2 as first-year Brett Newman found him on a cut with 2:16 to go in the first.
- Graduate student Benjamin Hollerbach nearly tied the game at the end of the first, but had his shot saved as Kean led 3-2.
- Kean scored two goals within the first five minutes of the second before Mickelson recorded two more saves and Howard and D'Entrone each put shots on target that were stopped.
- Kean added another goal before the half, but Hollerbach ended the run with a goal to open up the third quarter to make it a 6-3 contest.
- After two more Kean goals, Clark responded with four unanswered goals as graduate student Noah Skole, Howard, LaVecchia, and Wells each added goals as Clark trailed 8-7 going into the fourth.
- Mickelson stopped four shots early in the fourth to keep the deficit at one before Kean netted a goal.
- Senior Declan Fitzpatrick scooped up a ground ball, took the ball down the field, and beat the keeper with 8:35 to go in the fourth to make it a 9-8 game.
- LaVecchia fired a shot on target two minutes later and had the shot saved and after a pair of goals from Kean, Hollerbach and Skole each had shots saved before the end of the game as Clark fell 11-8.
