Box Score FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (3-6) closed out non-conference play with a contest at Fitchburg State (2-5) and were edged 12-11 by the Falcons on Wednesday night from Elliot Field.
How it Happened
- Junior Angela Borelli gave Clark an early 1-0 lead with a goal off a feed from senior Sophie Didier with 14:26 remaining and the Cougars extended the lead to 2-0 when junior Mary Greene scored off a pass from junior Greer McCarty.
- Senior Maddie Conners recorded three saves over a two minute span in the middle of the first before the Falcons scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead.
- Sophomore Meghan Fogarty tied the game with 3:33 to go in the first as she netted a free position shot before Fitchburg State regained the lead with less than 10 seconds to go in the quarter.
- Borelli opened the second with a goal to tie the game at 4-4 and after four more saves from Conners, the Falcons regained the lead at 5-4.
- The teams then trade the next two goals as sophomore Aubrey Conners scored right before the half off a feed from Simmons as Fitchburg State took a 7-5 lead into the half.
- Didier cut the deficit to one at 7-6 early in the third before Liakos netted a free position goal and Didier tied it up at 8-8 with 6:32 remaining in the third.
- Fitchburg State scored the games next two goals before Liakos scored another free position goal to cut the deficit to 10-9.
- The Falcons added two more goals and another Liakos free position goal with 4:05 in the fourth to get within two at 12-10.
- McCarty cut the deficit to one at 12-11 with 1:43 remaining and as time expired, sophomore Erin Lucas hit the post, but was unable to score as Clark fell.
