Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (3-7, 2-2 NEWMAC) extended their conference winning streak to two games with a 10-7 victory over Coast Guard (4-6, 1-2 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon from Cadet Memorial Field.
How it Happened
- Graduate student Benjamin Hollerbach nearly gave Clark an early edge, but had his shot hit the post and graduate student Ryan Mickelson recorded a save before the Bears took a 1-0 lead.
- Hollerbach responded with a goal off a feed from graduate student Noah Skole to tie the game at 1-1 and Hollerbach later found sophomore Matt Wells for a goal to make it a 2-2 contest with 2:58 to go in the first.
- The Bears took a 4-2 lead into the second before junior Attilio LaVecchia pulled Clark back within one off a feed from Hollerbach.
- LaVecchia then found Hollerbach for a goal to make it a 5-4 contest and after a Coast Guard man-up goal, Skole found the back of the net off a feed junior Colin Howard in a 6-5 game with 3:55 left in the second.
- Mickelson recorded a pair of saves before the half to keep the score the same and out of the half, LaVecchia tied the game at 6-6 with 8:56 to go in the third.
- Neither team scored for the remainder of the quarter as Mickelson came away with six saves over the final 8:56 of the quarter as the game was tied 6-6 going into the fourth.
- Howard found Skole with 12:34 remaining in the fourth and Skole beat the keeper to give Clark its first lead of the day at 7-6.
- Senior Declan Fitzpatrick, Skole, and LaVecchia each scored over a three-minute span as the Cougars pushed the lead to 10-6 with 9:55 to go and extend the run to six unanswered goals.
- After Coast Guard got back within three, Mickelson recorded four saves down the stretch as Clark came away with a 10-7 win.
