Box Score 2 CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (4-19, 0-6 NEWMAC) traveled to MIT (18-1, 6-0 NEWMAC) for a pair of conference contests and were edged by the Engineers in both contests from Briggs Field on Saturday afternoon.
Game One: MIT 9, Clark 1 (F/5)
- Senior Eliza Lindberg opened the game with an infield single, but was left on base before the Engineers plated two runs in the bottom of the first.
- First-year Madison Dillon singled in the top of the second and senior Nicole Buckley held MIT scoreless in the bottom of the second.
- First-year Emelie Spence doubled to left center to open the third, but was left on base and in the bottom of the third, the Engineers scored five runs.
- Clark scored their lone run of the game in the top of the fifth as Spence walked, stole second, and was driven home off a hit from junior Rebecca Mauro.
Game Two: MIT 8, Clark 2
- The Engineers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first before Clark answered with a run of their own in the top of the third as first-year Caitriona Andre singled to center field and scored first-year Magdalena Barthel to make it a 3-1 game.
- After another MIT run in the bottom of the third, the Cougars answered back with an RBI double from Barthel that plated graduate student Jessica Martin and made it a 4-2 contest.
- Martin reached base in the top of the sixth and first-year Alyssa Briggs singled in the top of the seventh, but the Cougars were unable to score another run as MIT came away with the win.
What's Next
The Cougars will be on the road when they travel to Nichols for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon beginning at 2:30 p.m.
