Women's Soccer Begins Season With 2-1 Victory Against Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Clark women's soccer team (1-0-0) opened the 2023 season with a 2-1 win over Nichols (0-1-0) on Friday afternoon from the Nichols Soccer Field led by a game-winning goal from graduate student Siobhan Lounsbury less than 30 seconds after Nichols tied the match.

How it Happened
  • Neither team put a shot on target over the first 29 minutes of play before graduate student Jamie Stern found fellow graduate student Emma Tziachris on the pitch and Tziachris sent a ball into junior Andrea Mortimer, who put the ball in the back of the net to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
  • Clark earned a corner kick in the 36th minute and senior Anika Floeck put a shot on target that was saved by Adie Hughes.
  • Junior Anabella White recorded her first save of the match in the 38th minute off a shot from Sarah Rucci as Clark took a 1-0 lead into the half.
  • The Bison tied the game in the 57th minute as Natalie Gray scored, but the Cougars answered less than 30 seconds later as Tziachris sent in a ball that found Lounsbury, and Lounsbury beat the keeper to give Clark the edge back at 2-1.
  • Mortimer and Lounsbury each put shots on goal that nearly extended the lead, but both were saved in the 67th and 68th minutes.
