Women's Soccer Cruises to 3-0 Win Over Maine Farmington in Home Opener

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark women's soccer team (2-0-0) played their first home match of the season on Saturday afternoon against Maine Farmington (0-1-1) and came away with a convincing 3-0 victory from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • Both team's defenses held the other without a shot on target over the first 21 minutes of play before graduate student Siobhan Lounsbury fired a shot on goal that was saved to keep it a 0-0 tie.
  • The Cougars got on the board in the 27th minute when first-year Sadie Cohen serviced in a free kick that found the head of sophomore Cassidy Hubbard and Hubbard was able to put the ball in the back of the net to give Clark a 1-0 edge.
  • Junior Andrea Mortimer nearly added to the Clark lead in the 29th minute when the midfielder put a shot on target that hit the crossbar.
  • Before the half, Lounsbury hit the post and sophomore Gabriella Herivaux had a shot saved as the Cougars led 1-0 at the break.
  • Less than two minutes into the second half, the scarlet and white broke through with their second goal as graduate student Jamie Stern sent a ball into the box and junior Isabella Ramirez came up with the ball and put it in to give Clark a 2-0 advantage.
  • Sophomore Jayme Brown and Ramirez each put shots on target shortly after that were saved before Ramirez found Brown in the 56th minute and Brown buried a shot from outside the box to give Clark a 3-0 edge.
  • Herivaux put the scarlet and white's final shot on target in the 76th minute, but Paige Gonya came away with the save as Clark came away with a 3-0 win.

  • Hubbard's goal was her first of the season and third of her career.
  • Cohen's assist was her first in the scarlet and white.
  • Ramirez's goal was her first of the campaign and fourth as a Cougar and the assist was her third career helper.
  • Stern dished out her second assist of the year and fourth of her career.
  • Brown netted her first career goal.
