WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (7-1) extended their winning streak to five games as the scarlet and white came away with a convincing 3-0 win in straight sets against Southern Maine (3-5) on Tuesday night from the Kneller Gymnasium.
Clark took the first set 25-15, the second set 25-15, and the third set 25-22.
How it Happened
- The Cougars opened the first set with a 5-1 run sparked by kills from senior Sofia Scherrer del Llano, graduate student Cameron Gill, senior Sheyenne Williams and a Scherrer del Llano service ace.
- A later service ace from junior Yvanna Torres and a kill from senior Camille Flurry gave Clark a 9-4 edge and a kill from junior Camille Sterling later in the set extended the lead to 14-9.
- Up 15-11, Clark scored four straight points which included a kill from Scherrer del Llano and a service ace from senior Victoria Pastor to take a 19-11 edge.
- Clark ended the set on a 6-4 run, that included a kill from Gill off a feed from first-year Julia Dopazo to win 25-15.
- The Huskies opened the second set up 4-1, but the Cougars stormed back with six unanswered points, including a kill and a service ace from Scherrer del Llano to take a 7-4 edge.
- Clark rattled off four straight points in the middle of the set with kills from graduate student Ava Spach and Pastor and later in the set, junior Emily Newman earned three straight serves as the Huskies recorded three errors.
- Torres added a pair of service aces at the end of the set and Flurry registered a kill from Dopazo as Clark took the second set 25-15.
- Clark jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third set as first-year Winifred Gakidis and Gill each registered kills and first-year Defne Olcer recorded a service ace.
- Later in the set, first-year Katelyn Williams recorded a service ace and a kill from Pastor off a pass from Torres extended Clark's edge to 13-9.
- Pastor, Gakidis, Flurry, and Sterling each registered kills over the next five Clark points and a Torres service ace gave Clark a 19-18 edge.
- Up 23-21, Pastor recorded a pair of kills for the match's last two points as the Cougars came away with a 25-21 victory.
