WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark women's soccer team (5-0-1, 1-0-0 NEWMAC) opened conference play with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Coast Guard (1-5-0, 0-1-0 NEWMAC) on Friday night from Granger Field.
How it Happened
- Graduate student Siobhan Lounsbury nearly gave Clark an early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute when she put a shot on goal that was stopped by Emily Scharnitzky.
- Junior Andrea Mortimer took a pair of corner kicks early in the match and in the 21st minute, Teal Wasson put a shot on goal that was stopped by junior goalie Anabella White.
- Fellow junior Cassandra Trevino recorded another Clark corner in the 35th minute and neither team put a shot on target the rest of the half as the match was tied 0-0 in a defensive oriented first half.
- Junior Isabella Ramirez registered a header on target in the 48th minute that was saved and put two more shots on target over the next seven minutes as the scarlet and white applied constant pressure on the Bears backline.
- White recorded a pair of critical saves in the 79th and 80th minutes before Ramirez found the back of the net with a shot that beat the keeper to give Clark a 1-0 edge.
- The Bears got one more shot attempt that went wide as the scarlet and white recorded their fifth shutout of the season and fifth straight clean sheet.
